2012 Youth Media Awards Announced

Yesterday was an eventful day for children’s and young adult literature enthusiasts; the American Library Association announced the 2012 Youth Media Awards.  Dead End in Norvelt, written by Jack Gantos, won the Newbery Medal.  This year’s Caldecott Medal was awarded to A Ball For Daisy written and illustrated by Chris Raschka.

Other top honors went to:
Where Things Come Back by John Corey Whaley – Michael L. Printz Award
Heart and Soul: The Story of America and African Americans written and illustrated by Kadir Nelson – Coretta Scott King Award
Under the Mesquite by Guadalupe Garcia McCall – Pura Belpré (Author) Award
Diego Rivera: His World and Ours illustrated by Duncan Tonatiuh – Pura Belpré (Illustrator) Award
